50 Names For Cats With Tortitude

From their mosaic fur coats of orange and black to their association with good luck, it’s safe to say that tortoiseshell cats are one of the most colorful cats to share your home with. Torties are also known for their colorful personalities, affectionately called "tortitude". And if you’re welcoming a new tortie cat into your family and home--congratulations on your new best friend! Now it’s time to give your newest furry family member a name.

Because the vast majority of tortoiseshell cats are female (only 1 in every 3,000 calicos are male), the names we’ve selected lean that way. But we’ve also included names for the rare male Tortie and names that can be used for both male or female!

My tortie polydactyl sisters are named Hoku and Lani after the street name my sister lives on in Hawaii. They are 12 1/2 years old and are amazing and wonderful companions who sleep with me.

  • Nubia

She was living on the streets and she found me ♥️. Her name is bunny.

  • Moomflake

Our tortie who is rather speckled with small tan marks, is named Coco, because she looks like a black cat with cocoa powder sprinkled all over her. When she’s being crazy we call her “Coconut”.

  • Terri

My dilute Tortie is Maisie named after Maisie Williams that plays Arya in Game of Thrones. A gal with tortitude. I always think of different cats and what the character on GOT would look like if they were a feline. 😻

  • Beth

My tortie sisters are named Audrey and Twyla for Audrey Hepburn and Twyla Tharp, two of my idols.
