Grumpy Cat, The Internet's Grumpiest Legend, Has Died

"Some days are grumpier than others."

Grumpy Cat, the face of countless memes and one of the Internet's most famous felines, died earlier this week due to complications from a urinary tract infection. The "celebricat" was just over seven years old when she passed away on Tuesday, May 14th, in the arms of her mother, Tabatha.

Grumpy Cat's family announced the news earlier today, stating that "her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere" and that Grumpy Cat "helped millions of people smile all around the world-even when times were tough."

Grumpy Cat's perma-frown and tiny size (weighing less than five pounds) are due to a condition called dwarfism.

Grumpy cat's real name was Tardar Sauce, and she rose to fame in 2012, when a post of her on Reddit went viral. She was just five months old. What followed was the creation of a Grumpy empire, fueled by countless memes featuring the feline's perpetual frown.

But Grumpy Cat's world domination didn't just stop at the Internet. The feline cultural phenom made her way onto talk shows and often posed with other famous celebrities - of the human variety.

From Grumpy Cat books to a holiday movie featuring the frowning feline, Grumpy Cat had expanded her empire beyond the screens of the Internet.

Needless to say, this tiny cat and her all-too-relatable state of grumpiness, will be missed by millions of her fans around the world. She will live on as an Internet legend.

Rest in peace, Grumpy Cat. Thank you for all the laughs; you made the world a grumpier (and better) place.

I was speechless with shock and sadness when I read the news on Twitter. I thought, the world will be a lesser place without this tiny soul in it. I am so sorry that Tardar Sauce has passed over the rainbow bridge. May St Gertrude of Nivelles,

the patron saint of cats watch over her soul until everyone is united again. 😢 🌈

Dearest Tardar Sauce – it is a strange thing to mourn the loss of a cat I’ve never known, but your loss affects me as if you had been my own. Your life was short, but you were oh, so loved. Enjoy the rainbow bridge, until your loved ones get there. We’ll miss you, and will never forget you.
    With much love,
    Laura

So very sorry that you lost an absolutely wonderful family member. I can say with certainty that his trip over the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge was peaceful without any more pain.
Always remember the great times you had as a family.
