Larry the Cat Welcomes His 6th U.K. Prime Minister

In a remarkable testament to his enduring presence at 10 Downing Street, Larry the Cat, the official Chief Mouser, has now welcomed his sixth U.K. Prime Minister. The beloved feline, who has become a symbol of continuity amid political upheaval, greeted the new leader with his characteristic charm.

Larry, a brown and white tabby, first took up residence at the Prime Minister's official residence in 2011 during David Cameron's tenure. Since then, he has witnessed the comings and goings of a string of Prime Ministers, including Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and now, the latest occupant of the famous address.

Known for his independent spirit and unflappable demeanor, Larry has become a favorite among staff and visitors alike. His duties as Chief Mouser include keeping the historic building free of rodents, a task he undertakes with a mix of diligence and leisure. Despite the serious nature of his role, Larry often finds time to charm the media and the public, often being seen lounging on the steps of Downing Street or enjoying a nap in the garden.

Larry’s unique position at the heart of British politics has afforded him a special place in the nation's heart. His presence has provided a comforting sense of stability during times of political change and uncertainty. Each new Prime Minister has been introduced to Larry, who, true to his nature, approaches each new leader with a calm and discerning gaze.

The latest Prime Minister, upon their arrival, was no exception to Larry's discerning welcome. The cat's influence, it seems, extends beyond his mousing duties; he has become a symbol of continuity and resilience in the ever-shifting landscape of British politics.

As Larry settles in with the new Prime Minister, the nation watches with affection. While leaders may come and go, Larry the Cat remains a steadfast presence at 10 Downing Street, a reminder of the enduring spirit of the historic residence.
