Piran the Cat Saves His 83-Year-Old Owner
PIRAN SAVES THE DAY!
We all love to talk about rescue cats and rescuing cats, but what about a rescuer cat? Well, that’s exactly what happened in Cornwall, England just a few days ago.
In the city of Bodmin, an 83-year-old woman went missing. Police searched the surrounding area without success - that is until a “member of the public” spotted the missing woman’s cat “meowing in the corner of a large maize field near to her home address.”
According to the Bodmin Police’s Facebook page, “the elderly female had fallen approximately 70 ft down a very steep embankment, with incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain.”
The missing woman’s black cat, Piran, drew attention to the area where his owner had fallen. A neighbor recognized Piran and alerted emergency personnel. The emergency crew was able to hoist the missing woman up to a field before an air ambulance took her to the hospital.
“Piran the cat saved the day!” Bodmin police shared. Black cats are long held under the superstition of bringing bad luck - but Piran brought his owner nothing but good luck.
One of the woman’s neighbors, Tamar Longmuir, told Sky News that neighbors has searched the fields in the area “but there was no sign of her.” But the searchers then noticed that Piran was meowing at a gate.
“The cat is very attached to her, and he was going back and forth in the gateway and meowing, so I decided to search the maize field,” Longmuir said. At first, she didn’t get a response to her calls for the missing woman. “Just as I was going to go off the path and start going through the crop, I heard a very faint response to my calling,” Longmuir continued. “I then quickly realized my neighbor was down the 70-foot ravine.”
Adding, “She had gone through the barbed wire and was laying in the stream – we think she had been in there for hours. Without the cat waiting at the gate to that field, it could have been hours later that I or anyone else would have checked in there.”
The 83-year-old was air lifted to the nearest hospital to receive medical care.
Thanks to Piran's strong bond with his owner, and his persistent meowing and dogged determination, his owner is still recovering. “Whilst the concerned is still currently receiving care, she is in good spirits and is being well-looked after,” Bodmin Police Facebook page.
Way to go, Piran!
Sweet story with a wonderful ending. I love kitties, have 2 of my own . I sure hope they would help save me if I needed saving .
THAT WAS ADORABLE, TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SAID THAT BLACK CATS ARE BAD LUCK , ARE SO WRONG, I CAN’T REMEMBER HOW MANY BLACK CATS I HAD DURING MY LIFE, NOW I STILL HAVE 1 GIRL INSIDE CAT AND 4 MORE INSIDE CATS THAT I LOVE WITH ALL MY HEART
A cat’s bond with his/her pet parent is special and very profound. I hope Piran is being cared for while his owner is recovering in hospital. I’m sure they will have a joyful reunion when the woman returns home!
