Nathan the Beach Cat is Basically a Mermaid
Meet Nathan. Nathan is a cat.
The status quo for cats and water is pretty much the same as oil and water: they just don't mix. But not for Nathan!
You see, Nathan is basically a mermaid; a purrmaid, if you will.
This rescue kitty absolutely loves swimming in the sea!
The confident little purrmaid was adopted by her forever parents, Rian and Melissa, earlier this year. She was found by the Queensland RSPCA, abandoned, in a box on the side of a highway.
"Once we brought her home we actually quite liked the name and it stuck, despite not really being a girl's name," Nathan's owners told Daily Mail Australia. "It still makes us laugh sometimes and we can't imagine her being named anything else!"
Nathan was an indoor cat when they adopted her, but they wanted to see if she'd like the outdoors as the couple lived a very active lifestyle.
They decided to test the waters, so to speak, and brought Nathan along on one of their trips to the beach.
"She followed us as we walked around the beach. She was a very good girl and didn't even need her leash," Melissa told BuzzFeed News. "Rian walked into the water, and Nathan followed him in."
"Each time we took her to the beach, her confidence would grow and she would wet herself more and more until she would eventually swim!" said Melissa.
This intrepid kitten is even learning how to conquer the waves.
Brave kitty, don’t overdo or you may get tired and sink. Small ones chill fast. She loves her humins so much, she trusts you to look after her. She can’t tell you when she is tired or cramping. The harness is good.
Nathan is precious. And very brave. I love people who love cats. And it is quite obvious you love Nathan.
