You Can Get Paid To Live on a Tiny Greek Island And Take Care of Cats

Do you love cats? How about island life? Then we've found your dream job.

A cat sanctuary known as God's Little People Cat Rescue on the small Greek island of Syros is looking for its new caretaker to oversee the 50 plus cats that roam the sanctuary.

According to their Facebook, the organization is a registered charity and no-kill, no-cage lifetime sanctuary and adoption center.

“A very special position and living circumstance on offer on a little Greek island called Syros (a small paradise no less!) for a mature and genuinely passionate cat lover who knows how to handle many cats and would love their company,” the job posting states.

Besides getting to spend your days surrounded by a clowder of loving cats, the job also offers a modern little house with its own garden and a view of the Aegean Sea, and a small salary on top of it.

According to the post, the job only takes four hours a day, so the caretaker will have plenty of time to enjoy and explore the small island. The only catches are that you must know how to drive a manual car as that's the only type available on the island, and be up to the task of tourists coming to visit during the summer months.

Apart from the normal feeding, watering and litter box routine for 55 kitties, ideal candidates should also have an understanding of cat psychology and some natural cat whispering skills, as the caretaker can expect to at times trap or handle feral or non-socialized cats.

This job is likely most suitable for those who are 45 years of age or older, according to the posting, and someone who is “responsible, reliable, honest, practically inclined - and really, with a heart of gold!” Honestly, as cat lovers go, finding someone with a heart of gold won't be difficult at all. In our opinion here at Meowingtons, cat people are a special kind of people!

Details about how to apply can be found on the original post on Facebook. Interviews will be conducted via Skype at the end of this month, with a start date of November 1, 2018. The job is long term, with a minimum of a 6-month term.

I have owned and operated my own cat rescue. I was nonprofit, I would rescue cats, kittens (bottle fed) and litters and then get them adopted. I’ve had, at the minimum, 10 cats at one time sometimes more. I’ve been called a cat whisperer on multiple occasions. I’ve dealt with ferals and got them socialized. This would be a great and fun job for me and I would be an ideal candidate. Please consider me for the position. Thank you!
