Ever wonder how people get the nicknames they do? How on earth did we get the name Dick from Richard? Or Bob from Robert? Or Ned from Edward? Recently on Twitter, people gave an insight into how these nicknames may have evolved. After one Twitter user shared how their dog's nickname evolved, folks around the Twitterverse began sharing their own pet name evolutions. And the results are pretty amazing!

My first ever cat, Smokette, lived to be 20 years old. She passed a few years ago. In her 20 years, she was rarely ever called by her full name. She went from Smokette to Smo, then on to "Schmo", Smoke-a-Woke-a to S'Mowgli. As she aged, her meow eventually turned into a raspy sort of bleat, so we took to calling her the Old Goat. But mostly, she was Smo. Rest in peace, Smo!
When I adopted my cat they had already named her Nevaeh, but I call her Navvy for short. However her nicknames have evolved from…kitten caboodle, caboodle, boodle, boodlie, kitty caboodlie, cotton caboddle, lotten labottle, lotten labotomy…Princess, Angel, Butterface, Beluga whale, Butter bean, Princess Beluga butter buns…
When we first found my parent’s cat I called her “Chowder-Head” because she was a bit of klutz and a goofball. This is how she got the name Chowder. It has since evolved into the following nicknames: Chowdah!, Chow-Meows, Chow-Lilly, and Kitten Chow Mein. Their kitten Timon will also answer to Mones, Ramone, and Timoaning Myrtle.

Female: Sookie, Kitten, Princess Purrfect, Princess Poops A Lot, Sookie Fairy Princess Baby Girl
WHen our cat wants attention, he comes up behind my wife and slaps her in the butt. So he became “Slappy”.
When I adopted Luna I planned on calling her Moria, as the mines on LOTR. But the rescuer that found her had named her Luna so I started calling her that. Now I call her Nana or NAM-NAM or Nanam.
